49ers Fancast #84 – Shut Yo Mouth Rex Ryan
Nothing makes me happier than seeing Rex Ryan get his big fat mouth shut for him, hence the title. The 49ers dominated the Jets, and we discuss it here. However we also go into what they could have done better. Looking forward to the Bills, we like the Niners against another horrible run D, and expect more out of Alex Smith, who is so very good at home.
P.S. The Rams finally showed the Cardinals for who they really are. Let’s go get First Place, Niners!

The Cards loss to the Rams showed the NFL world that the pretender Cards, even though they had a 4-0 record, were more recipients of lucky breaks that dominating opponents like the Niners have been doing. Plus, their O-line is atrocious.
The Niners have 3 straight home games vs the Bills, Giants, and Seahawks. Barring injuries, the Niners will be favored in all those games and then it’s on to Arizona for the last game before the bye. I think the Niners will be favored and they can pull that one out too. Niner fans have a way to represent in the desert by taking over the stadium.
Go Niners!

underwhelmed??? wtf ?
QB controversy already, Mark from Maui?
Ck7 had Crabtree wide open running a deep drag on that Moss bomb… but yeah, who cares? Nothing to praise or condemn Ck7 about there.
Yep. Sanchez was really awful.. can’t believe they left him in the game as long as they did.
Still have some issues with your film-session assessments, Shawn. (sp?)
Alex did miss Crabtree down the left sideline by a foot, foot and a half. Other than that, there were route issues and focus issues from Mario on his two deep sideline 9 routes.
btw, I’m watching the games this weekend now… Matt Ryan is throwing a pick 6 and overthrowing an open WR for a potential TD… Rodgers overthrows Nelson twice so far… Vick is fumbling his game away… etc.
Bottom line? QBs miss WRs deep… QBs make mistakes…
Not much to add left. Starting to doubt these really get read anyway.
Go Niners!

Hey Jim & Shaun, What a great games yesterday, so dominant in all forms of the game,Great to see Kyle williams get in the end zone, also Crabtree and Vernon having big games and to see Alex go over 300 yards was brilliant he hit the deep passes proving to all the doubters that he can make thoughs throws and even more so at home, he seems to be so much more comfortable!!!
621 total yards, 3 players over 100 yard games and Kendal had 81 yards so 19 yards from 4 100 yard game!!
Only 1 down point from the day and that was some silly pena that negated big plays, we could had over 700 yards and Alex could have been closing in on a 400 yard game if not for them but all in all, an awesome day!!!
2 New york teams down Giants are next up, been waiting for this game since the championship game, that long bitter off season, cant wait to get this game underway now.
Great podcast lads, keep up the great work!!!

GO NINERS!!!!

Yes, Oldman9er, I was underwhelmed because, as I said, the J-E-T-S suck, suck, SUCK! The Niners running game was great, but the passing game just did not click, which was disappointing after the poor performance against the Vikings (who look legit, by the way).
Now Buffalo – that is what I’m talking about! Still a great run game. Still great defense. But for whatever reason, the passes connected for big plays. If the offense can hit a couple throws like that per game this team is unstoppable!
It helped that Alex had time to make himself a sandwich before passing the ball on most of his dropbacks. Great job by the O-line.

oldman I owe you an apology and a bit of an explanation.
I’m sorry I have neglected the comments on the site. I am in a position right now where I have no internet in my home save my phone. It’s really hard to type on my phone so I don’t feel like it makes for productive discussion. I upload files from my in-laws computer, which operates really well over FTP but HTTP leaves much to be desired. Right now I am typing this at work which tends not to lend itself to typing long blog comments due to the nature of eyeballs on my work. I do always read them in my email when I get them, and I will endeavor to pay more attention in the future
I think Shaun was less critical of Alex missing the guys than he was about a seeming lack of offensive killer instinct early on. Killer instinct I trust was displayed to everyone’s satisfaction this past Sunday! This game was an example of them getting the offense on track to where it should be. Which, by the way, we saw against Green Bay and Detroit. The only thing that kept those games closer was the relative quality of the opponent versus that of Buffalo. I think it’s clear at this point that offensive inefficiency is slowly proving to be the exception rather than the rule.
Kamara – I agree with you about the Cardinals. They ARE the beneficiaries of some lucky breaks, and if the Niners approach the divisional games with the same intensity they displayed against Green Bay, Detroit and Buffalo, they will create their own lucky breaks and take advantage of the holes on these teams. I caution you not to get ahead of yourself, however, lest Frederick P. Soft show up!
Daryl – thanks for continuing to listen to us Yanks and comment every week! What I want to see is this team overwhelming the weak opponents, and that’s what we’ve seen over the Jets and Bills. Winning going away versus Green Bay and Detroit tells me this team knows what it’s doing and is taking advantage of their opponents’ weaknesses.
At this point, I expect them to come out on top in a reasonably close game at home vs the Giants, win a slobberknocker against Seattle (run heavy and not as crisp cuz it’s on Thursday night), then with ten days off beat the snot out of Arizona before the bye.

Your assessments are short-sided and vague at best, Shaun. Do the work.. then talk like you know what’s going on.

Apparently with the links my WordPress set it as a “to be approved” post, thinking it might be spam.

OIdman9er – I guess a smiley face is supposed to make me enjoy your insult or think that we’re chums? You don’t have to like my opinion, but you could at least be respectful, especially since we root for the same team.
Maybe my lack of enthusiasm for the offense against the Jets is a little easier to take after the tremendous ability they displayed against the Giants. . . oh, right.
No, I don’t think the Niners offense is THAT bad. I don’t think it’s bad at all, but I found it annoying that the Niners settled for a FG attempt at the end of the first half. Why you feel the need to insult me for having that opinion, I don’t know.
The last four games Alex has had 1 good game, 1 okay game, 1 poor game, and 1 terrible game. I’m an Alex support, but he and the entire offense and coaching staff better find some consistency. I think they will. They better, because Seattle is no joke.
Here’s where I should start: Gore and Kaepernick should NOT have the same number of touches. Just my opinion that Gore should have more, but perhaps that is short sided. Of course, in their victories, Gore averages 18 touches a game. In the 2 embarrassing defeats, he’s averaged 10.
