49ers Fancast #83 – Well That Didn’t Work
The 49ers lost a game! Oh no! What are 49ers fans going to do? Jump from the Golden Gate Bridge? Lock themselves inside San Quentin? Get arrested breaking into Skywalker Ranch? Blame Alex Smith for it all?
One of these things is true. Meanwhile, we’re talking about the loss at Minnesota, look forward to the Jets, and talk about a voicemail that isn’t heard in the show! Must be because Alex Smith doesn’t throw deep much.

Afternoon Jim and Shaun,
Well well well if there was ever a kick up the arse we needed it was that Viks game, was great to see the D back to normal hitting hard, taking the ball away and the shut out is just a bonus.
Gore, Hunter and Kaep ran the ball well, it got to the point where we didnt need to pass the ball, now iv seen on different pages Alex once again getting so much stick and people calling for Kaep to replace him now, this is CRAP!!! Alex hasnt had the best 2 games but against the Viks everyone had a bad game and sunday we ran the ball cause the jets couldnt stop us, but its like so called fans expect him to pass for 300+ and throw for 4/5 tds every single week, its not going to happen, Harbaugh loves to run the ball, this is who we are, we are a balanced team & with our D we normally get great field position anyway so makes throwing for 300+ yards rather tough to do, at the end of the day, these ‘fans’ will never ever let themseleves trust Alex, its a shame and a little annoying
Cant wait for the bills this week, Fitzpatrick even though has a big arm, makes stupid throws over and over, i think our D could have a field day, but thier secondary is very over rated, they have given up 9 touchdowns already this year, Alex needs to get some confidence back this could be the team to do it with Vernon to have a big day.
Once again great podcast & GO NINERS

As far as many fans are concerned, if Alex Smith wins a Super Bowl with this team this year, the refrain will be, “we could’ve won it last year too, if we had an elite quarterback!” You can’t let that bother you. And life’s too short to hang out on message boards
The fact is they’ve played three road games, he played great in one and ok in two others. They’ve played one home game where he also played great. He typically plays much better at home and against a terrible Bills defense the offense should get back on track, likely hitting some of those deep throws they came up just short on.

The message boards are terrible Jim. You are missing nothing but ignorance and irritation at the ignorance.
Vikes did their homework and came prepared.. Niners did not. We did get out-coached. It’s really that simple for me.
On the TD miss to Moss, Boone allowed Kevin Williams right through his zoned gap.. so Alex got rid of it hot and quickly so he could protect himself from yet another free rushing DT. I can forgive that. Whitner drops a pick 6.. Ponder runs for a long TD up the middle. Ponder throws an accurate TD pass off his back foot with Goldson in his face. See? This was just one of those games where you say, “guys… it just isn’t our day.”
After watching our D against the NY Jets, I am of course happy again and feel the Vikes game was an aberration. We are 3-1.. have three away games knocked off.
Love to see our improved OL allowing the backs to trample all over the D with 245 yards on the ground. I think the deeper pass game is gonna evolve. People point to a few deep ball misses. Remember.. I watch these games all week long… over and over… and type out every play. Alex missed Crabtree on the deep left sideline 9 route by a foot or two. Other than that, sloppy routes mixed with no-calls on interference mixed with poor efforts to attack the ball were the issues on the other deep ones. They will get more in sync as we go.
We will get even better and we will win ring # 6 this season. SAY IT !!!!!
