49ers Fancast #80 – Season Preview
In this episode, I am joined by my new cohost! Listeners will know him as Superfan Shaun (my name for him), but I just know him as Shaun Farrell. He is the host of Adventures in SciFi Publishing, and as big a 49ers fan as me! He’s the local guy who gets to watch every game, DVR it, see it twice… you know… the guy I WISH I was!
In this one we talk about the final roster, preseason performances, and our predictions for the season. Be warned: It’s a little over an hour, just this once. Enjoy!

Hey Jim and Shaun, first of all LOVE this podcast, the 2 of you worked well together, i think we go 12-4 and we win the superbowl over the Pats!!!
Right on to the Packers game, Amazing win infact my 12-4 prediction had packers a loss so maybe i change that to 13-3 haha.
I was so impressed with Alex his stat line of 20/26 211 yards 2 touchdowns, i thought he protected the ball and at times was calm, cool & controled BUT i also thought Crab was very good, he impressed me the fact he showed up in a big game, smith to moss is only going to get better hopefully teams will see that game and doube team moss and leave Manningham, Crab, Davis, Williams and AJ with single coverage this will help Alex massively.
The running game was as solid as ever Hunter is our future but Franky showed he is still the number 1 and we have LeMichael James and Brandon Jacobs to add to them, we are stacked!!! the total upgreat at offense showed and with the best defence in the league giving us better field position we can put points on teams for fun
And final note, my man crush for David Akers has gone off the charts, 63 yards field goal? are you kidding me what a guy!!!
Bring on the Lions, they looked shocking at home against the Lambs if stafford throws like that sunday night expect some balls going back the other way.
Great podcast again lads, its going to be a great season

Thanks, Daryl. I’m glad to be here and contributing my small part to what was already an amazing podcast.
I agree with everything you said in your comment. This was an amazing way to start the season, and I believe Harbaugh is cool headed enough to keep the team focused on their daily tasks and routines.
Looking forward to Handshake Bowl 2 in primetime.

I enjoyed it mate as i live in the UK my NFL obsession is limitedby boring people i know by talking about it hahaha so love all the nfl podcasts but this one is my favorite as its all niners
Harbaugh i think has everyone focused and the whole team buys in to what he says which is one of the main things, players just seem to go that extra yard for him, hit a litte harder, i love the guy, he will bring us another championship again, i can feel it!!!
Same here mate, but the game starts at 1.20am over here so a late night in store for me, im sure it will be worth it

Had my doubts about winning @ GB, but what a great start to our SuperBowl season! ( I had us winning it 27-20 )
Alex was impressive in his control of the offense. I thought Boone had a great 1st game at RG. Our run game was owning them out there. Joe Staley had good moments but some really rough ones if we are to regard him as a top tier LT. Tough guy to play through the pain though. Goodwin got pushed back frequently by Raji, but he did.. okay. There were a few times I wanted Alex to uncork a couple deep ones, but hey, nit-picking a win there.
On the other side, I was overall pleased, but there were times I was not. No more 3 man rushes, Fangio! We made Rodgers’ job easier by playing soft coverage and often leaving his checkdown RB Cobb unattended to. Cobb tied 2nd place for 9 receptions out of all NFL receivers in week 1! That was a bit annoying. I did expect Justin, Aldon, and Ray to molest Rodgers more, so the GB pass pro was better than I thought, and we allowed Rodgers some really quick throws. Our D overall did a good job at the end of the day, so props there.. they are as strong as ever. GB had to put on ridiculous theatrics (shame on you, Finley), play Capt. Checkdown, and get ref help to squirm in for their first TD.
The refs were laughable, but there were bad calls on both sides. We did take more punishment from them though. How they could have missed the Dixon block in the back that gave them a TD return? Beyond me. Even the first kickoff of the game, Spillman gets blocked in the back, yet the Niners got penalized? wow…
Now we welcome in the Schwartz Lions… feeling good about this outcome. No Jahvid Best as a quick dump off threat. Not at all worried about their run game. I think our DBs match up well vs their WRs (with help on Calvin J).. and our ILBs can do a better job with their TEs. Lots of 4-5 man rush should get pressure on Stafford.
We should be able to run pretty well on their D… heck, and pass well. Just gotta worry about keeping Alex upright.
Gonna shut up now, but still listening… I don’t do the facebook stuff, twitter stuff, etc… but I enjoy the podcast thingy and hope it continues and grows for ya. Go Niners !!!

After watching last night’s game, I have to say that the 49ers offensive line is amazing. Well, compared to Chicago anyway. Who would have thought that limiting Clay Matthews to 2 sacks would make Joe Staley look like a true Pro Bowler!
