49ers Fancast #29 – 49ers Stink at the Linc
First of all, apologies for completely whiffing on the feedback episode. I thought for sure I released it. After making such a definitive statement about my schedule, I completely failed in that regard.
In this episode, talking about the loss to the Eagles, and what it all means to the team as a whole, starting with Quarterback Alex Smith. Then I look (briefly) at the upcoming Lions game. Call the voicemail line at 206-666-2826, or email 49ersfancast@gmail.com.

Merry Christmas, My prediction for the Lions game: 49ers 38 Lions 13. Alex Smith with his second 300 yard game and 3 TDs and no INTs. The Lions have one of the worst pass defenses this decade this year.

Quick thoughts about the Lions win
The good: 49ers win 20-3, Alex Smith had a nice stat day, and besides the opening drive the D brought it by causing 6 turnovers and holding Lions to 3 points. They have now held opp. to 10 points or less 6 games, with a chance for 7 next week. The D still needs a playmaker but they are solid.
The bad: The offensive play calling. Why oh why have Gore run the ball only 7 times in the first half? If you hadn’t noticed, the 49ers didn’t score their TDs until the 2nd half when they RAN the ball. I continue to stand by my views of Jimmy Raye. He seriously needs to retire. Statistically this offense was no better than last year, maybe even worse. I stand by Singletary as our head coach but the way he went about hiring his OC has hurt this team. Too bad those quality OC’s didn’t see how good he was able to adapt to the strengths of the offense. That rigid stance on running the ball during the OC hiring process cost us. Another bad decision that will have a lasting effect. The O-line is horrible, especially the right side. We probably have the worst right side o-line in the league.
The question: This game answered nothing in the debate about Alex Smith. He had a good stat game but I expected more. He played well but the Lions have one of the worst D’s this decade and especially against the pass, he should have taken control. Against a bad team, he didn’t stand out. I stand by that he isn’t going to be anything special as a QB.
The Disappointment: Lack of scoring after turnovers is a huge problem. In the 3 games against the Bears, Cards, and Lions we had 54 pts (18 avg) but we caused 18 turnovers. That is a 1pt=1to ratio. That is disappointing and just plain bad.

Sorry bad math, 3pts per turnover. Still bad.
