- You could tell Alex Smith was struggling early on in this game. He was not playing the same way he did in Indianapolis. For most of the first quarter he seemed nervous and uncomfortable. However, he started to put it together and produced a pretty decent stat line: 29/45 for 64%, 286 Yards and 2 Touchdowns. However, it was the turnovers that beat this team. One interception was a bad throw, but two of them were freak tip drill jobs. One fumble was on Smith for trying to do too much instead of covering the ball and going down. It resulted in a bigger loss than necessary. One fumble was a freak job where the defensive lineman’s helmet hit the ball during the wind-up. The key for Smith is looking past a bad game and building on what he did right. He did start to throw with confidence and accuracy like he did in Indianapolis.
- Adam Snyder is working his way to the bench. He did not adjust well to #78 Jacob Ford’s inside juke move. He did not adjust well to Jacob Ford at all. It seems some of these linemen lack the confidence to push back against their man at the point of attack. Instead they get back on their heels, allowing the defensive linemen to gain momentum on their way to the quarterback. We may see new acquisition Chris Patrick sooner rather than later.
- Josh Morgan needs to be benched. He has shown some promise, but he just isn’t starter material. This kid cannot be trusted to catch the football in critical moments. He complained when Hill’s passes came down like punts, what’s his excuse when his quarterback throws bullets to his hands?
- Jason Hill needs to be the starter at Flanker. This kid flat makes plays for this team. 4 catches, 40 yards and 2 touchdowns. He was the guy Alex Smith could count on when the chips were down.

Disappointed to say the least.
Stayed up till the early hours to watch this, and now struggling in work as a result!!
A few quick notes;
1. Why oh, why is Brandon Jones allowed to return punts…I have never seen indecision like it….
2. I agree that Hill must be plugged in as a starter…he looked really good and would be a benefit over Morgan…
3. Liked the few occassions where they threw out of a running formation, but, they must get a bit more creative…far too may same plays and same targets that just did not fly..it seemed at times that it was either a Gore run straight up the gut, or a quick pass nearly always for Davis or Crabtree. It just did not seem like they were keeping their D on their toes. I would love to see them mix it up, get more players involved on a regular basis. I like what I see from Delanie Walker and reckon he should get more involved.
4. Whats the deal with the big play giveaways by the secondary. It seems that a simple jump ball is enough to outfox them…I would rather they at least attacked the ball and had the chance to make a play ( I would not mind interceptions that way…)
5. As per my comment fromm the Indy game…The O-Line needs to be beefed up. Smith got pressured way too much…
Anyway, keep up the good work
Cheers

We should have won this one.

1) Alex Smith is not a NFL Starter
2) Our starting tackles are both injured so Adam Snyder is going to start even though he is not starting tackle material.
3) I agree, Morgan needs to be benched for Hill
4) The Yorks need to seriously consider replacing our Front Office. I do think Singletary can be our long term Head Coach but our Front Office has failed to acquire enough talent in certain important positions (offensive line, quarterback, pass rusher). As a matter of fact they have failed miserably in this regard. These are not problems that have hurt us this year but has hurt us the past five year. It is time a new front office comes in.

I disagree with you on Alex, but then again, you’re not surprised by that I don’t think. He did post a 91.2 rating in the loss, and he’s completing 64% of his passes. He hadn’t played in two years and only has two starts under his belt. Let’s allow the season to play out before we write him off.
Adam Snyder is one of the biggest disappointments this season. Then again, so is Marvel Smith not panning out. They need to do SOMETHING about that RT spot.
Regarding Scot McCloughan, let’s remember he’s never had a draft without Mike Nolan as “the trigger,” or at least the man with principal input on draft picks, until this year, and he selected Michael Crabtree. If Alex Smith pans out, McCloughan looks like a genius. Vernon Davis is having a breakout season, Parys Haralson is on the rise, Patrick Willis is amazing, Joe Staley is solid and will get better, Justin Smith was an inspired get, and we’re realizing how much we miss Nate Clements in the lineup.
If we don’t select a few linemen in this next draft, then maybe you have something.
